About Our School

The Alagappa Schools had its inception in M.Ct.M. Preparatory school in 1954. Declared open by the then Governor of Madras Shri S. Prakasa, the school was nurtured by the Asoka Trust under the aegis of Padma Bhushan Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. In 1982 it was upgraded into a high school and in 1989 into a Higher Secondary school through the initiative of Dr. Mrs. Umayal Ramanathan, the distinguished daughter of Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. Our Trustee Rm. Vairavan, is keen on taking all efforts to make the institution a land mark in Chennai. The school has been accorded Permanent Recognition by the Dept. of Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu for std I-XII.We are pioneers in introducing Smart Class Programme/ Digitalized classroom through EduComp in Chennai. We have a State of the Art Computer Centre. Technology enriched with Wi-Fi enabled Classrooms and highly modernized networking facilities.

Service to Education

Padmabhushan Dr.Alagappa Chettiar was a great Philanthropist, eminent educationist and a multi-faceted versatile personality. Born on 6th April, 1909 as second son of Shri K.V.AL.Ramanathan Chettiar and Umayal Achi at Kottaiyur of Sivagangai District, in Tamilnadu.

To bring prominence to the educational institutions he had the vision to convince Prime Minister Nehru to house one of the Governments National Research Institutes in the Alagappa campus. Dr. Radhakrishnan, the President of India saidat the opening of the Central Electro Chemical Research Institute (CECRI) on 14 Jan 1953.

Kindergarten Graduation Day

KG graduation is a great occasion in the lives of all children. As children are active participants and constructors of their environment ought to receive attention and recognition. The Graduation day for the SRM was celebrated on 1st April, 2017, in our school campus. Dr. Mrs. Umayal Ramantahan, our beloved Correspondent presided over the function and disturbed the Graduation Memento.

Rainbow International Educare of Actma Abacus organised an event named Accomplish 2017 at Alagappa Schools. This was an Intra School Mental Arithmetic Competition conducted on 24th of February, 2017. Our Students Solved 50 sums in 5 mins very easily and quickly. The first 3 Championship Awards were clinched by our own students.

Swimming Champ-2017

Our Student M.M. Luqmaan Ahamed of Std XI, made us proud by securing first place in 10000mts Swimming Swim-A-thon with a record timing of 3hrs 25mins, conducted by Chennai Trekking Club at Ottiambakkam.

An Annual Camp-2017 for JRC, RSP, ECO Club and Scouts & Guides was organized at Stanley Camp Site, Coonoor. The students were exposed to a ‘regimental way of life’. This proved to be very essential to inculcate in them, the values of discipline, duty, punctuality, orderliness, smartness, respect for the elders and self confidence.

Literary Association Valedictory function was held on 25th Feb, 2017, in our school premises. The Guest of Honor was Dr. Mrs. Umayal Ramanathan and Chief Guest for the day was Mr. Velmurugan, Advocate (Bar Council Tamil Nadu & Puducherry). The Overall Championship was Clinched by Master Sabreesh and L. Manoj of class V and VII respectively. They were awarded a Shield and a Cash Prize of Rs 3000 each.

M.M. Luqmaan Ahamed of class XI A has won 3rd place in 50mts, Back Stroke, Swimming Competition in 0.39.25 seconds during a State level Inter School and Inter Collegiate Swimming conducted by KESPA, Hindustan University, Tamil Nadu.

G. Aakash and K. Bharath Vaj of class XI participated in NSS camp at Tiruvanamalai on 24th, Feb,2017.

G. Aakash received the BEST VOLUNTEER AWARD from Chief Educational Officer V. Jeyakumar, Tiruvanamalai District.

Chennai District Badminton Championship 2017 was conducted by Chennai District Badminton Association in Ambattur.

A .Akshaya and R. Arul Bala - won I place in Women Doubles.

R. Arul Bala - was declared Runner Up.

World Thinking Day was celebrated on 25th Feb, in our school.

Honourable Justice T. Suthanthiram was the Chief Guest. He motivated the students by planting a sapling and thereby requesting them to preserve the natural environment for the future.

B. Steffin, of Class VIII has won 1st place in Chief Minister's Trophy, state level Fencing Competition held at Paavai Engineering College, Pachal on 3rd Feb,2017. He won a cash award of Rs 1 Lakh.
