About Our School

The Alagappa Schools had its inception in M.Ct.M. Preparatory school in 1954. Declared open by the then Governor of Madras Shri S. Prakasa, the school was nurtured by the Asoka Trust under the aegis of Padma Bhushan Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. In 1982 it was upgraded into a high school and in 1989 into a Higher Secondary school through the initiative of Dr. Mrs. Umayal Ramanathan, the distinguished daughter of Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. Our Trustee Rm. Vairavan, is keen on taking all efforts to make the institution a land mark in Chennai. The school has been accorded Permanent Recognition by the Dept. of Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu for std I-XII.We are pioneers in introducing Smart Class Programme/ Digitalized classroom through EduComp in Chennai. We have a State of the Art Computer Centre. Technology enriched with Wi-Fi enabled Classrooms and highly modernized networking facilities.

The infrastructure has been updated to be in sync with the growing needs of the multitude of children studying in our school. Service to Education

Padmabhushan Dr.Alagappa Chettiar was a great Philanthropist, eminent educationist and a multi-faceted versatile personality. Born on 6th April, 1909 as second son of Shri K.V.AL.Ramanathan Chettiar and Umayal Achi at Kottaiyur of Sivagangai District, in Tamilnadu.

To bring prominence to the educational institutions he had the vision to convince Prime Minister Nehru to house one of the Governments National Research Institutes in the Alagappa campus. Dr. Radhakrishnan, the President of India saidat the opening of the Central Electro Chemical Research Institute (CECRI) on 14 Jan 1953.

SGFI conducted 64th School Games National Badminton Championship tournament at Andhra Pradesh and Kakinada. Nisha of IX - C won Rs 1,50,000 cash award in the individual and team event (State Championship Runner up) Girls under 15.

SGFI conducted Lawn Tennis tournament at hyderabad from 14th to 16th January 2018. Bandaru Kundana Sri of IX - D won two gold medal & 4 Lakhs cash award in the Individual & Team event (Girls Under 14).



Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Students Federation of India conducted State level Speech Competition as a tribute to Dr. APJ Abdul kalam Idea India 2K18. Sivavirush academic topper of IX 'B' representing Alagappa Schools won the award for the enunciation of his Vision for India 2020.

He received the award from our honourable Governor, His Excellency Thiru Banwarilal Purohit on October 15th 2018.

Tamilnadu Badminton Association conducted badminton tournament at Nagerkoil from 21st to 25th August 2017. Akshaya.A of XI C won the Tamilnadu Senior Women's Single Championship 2017 and was declared WINNER. She participated first time in senior category and bagged the Maiden Title.
